Skeleton Image Nichos

Day of the Dead Art

In southern Mexico, the spirits of the dead come back to visit, from noontime on October 31 through November 2. It is a time of rituals and prayer, but also of personal celebration as people "catch up" with their deceased loved ones. Many believers keep all-night vigils in Oaxaca's cemeteries, which are transformed into a wonderland of twinkling candles, yellow marigolds, and smoking incense.

Read More About Skeleton Image Nichos

The featured products on this page are tin nichos with images of skeleton figures. The nichos are for hanging on the wall; they are not freestanding. Each has a glass door that opens to the interior compartment that holds the image of the skeletons. Additional decorations such as beads, small paper flowers, coins, etc can be added to the compartment. You can also insert a different picture entirely. These nichos are handmade by artisan Jaime Hernandez Cruz in San Miguel de Allende, in the state of Guanajuato in central Mexico.
