Sacred Art

Devotional Art

Catholic Christianity was instilled in the native Aztec populations by the Spanish conquistadors in the 1500s. It remains the predominant religion in Mexico. Our handmade devotional and religious art is from three cities in central Mexico -- San Miguel de Allede, Puebla and Oaxaca. Our tin nichos feature images of the Lady of Guadalupe, and saints. Crosses range from sculptured wood bearing milgros to folksy tin crosses decorated with bottle-cap images.
